Let’s make some meaning…

MAKING MEANING: THE BACKGROUND

Brown Angel plays post-everything Noise Metal. They’re based in Pittsburgh, PA.

Formed in 2005, Brown Angel has several releases. Their most recent release is Shutout, released on Sleeping Giant Glossolalia in 2016. Their upcoming record is currently being mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, Old Lady Drivers), and was engineered by Sid Riggs. John is also the drummer in the bands Microwaves and Night Vapor (who is playing DOC III on Saturday 9.21.19).

Brown Angel is: Adam MacGregor (guitar, vocals, electronics), Mike Rensland (bass), and John Roman (drums).

MAKING MEANING: THE SONG

Listen to the song “See That I Am Scourged” from Brown Angel’s album Shutout and learn what meaning John makes:

John Speaks

This one was written mostly by Adam MacGregor who plays guitar and sings in the band. It was engineered by Jason Jouver at Plus Minus Recording and mastered by James Plotkin. It can be found as the first song on our Shutout LP which was loosely titled as a reference to a Scott Walker song.

A lot of Brown Angel’s lyrics deal with fear, self-loathing, rejection, paranoia, etc. but are somewhat open-ended and this one is no different.

DESCENDANTS OF CROM III

We talked to John about playing at Descendants of Crom III. The Third Annual Descendants of Crom heavy music festival takes place in Pittsburgh, PA September 20 – 22, 2019.

How do you feel about playing DOC III?

Pretty confident considering we still haven’t had a rehearsal in over a year. It should be a rootin’-tootin’ good time.

What can the audience expect from your performance?

A lot of drums, some guitars.

What other bands are you excited to see perform?

Coma will be interesting since I missed their one other show, ever that they played.

What else do you want readers to know?

We’re on last, so bring amphetamines or use the time to beat the traffic.

Thanks so much to John of Brown Angel for talking with us about their song “See That I Am Scourged” and Descendants of Crom III! We hope this adds to your experience of their band, their song, and their performance. Thanks for making meaning with us.
